HOW DOES IT WORK
Scroll to view steps
Step 01
Both games run simultaneously
Minecraft Java Edition and Elden Ring continue running their own game engines. Minecraft remains responsible for Minecraft-specific systems such as blocks, items, mobs, water, projectiles, inventory, and game logic, while Elden Ring continues to provide its own world, terrain, enemies, camera, and environment.
Step 02
A bridge connects the two games
A custom bridge layer acts as the communication system between Minecraft and Elden Ring. In the public GitHub implementation, the Minecraft side is implemented as a Fabric mod, while the Elden Ring side uses a native bridge component. The two sides exchange information rather than attempting to merge the two game engines into one.
Step 03
Player position and camera are synchronized
The bridge continuously translates Minecraft's player position and orientation into Elden Ring's coordinate system. This allows the Minecraft character to move through the Lands Between while the Elden Ring camera and world continue functioning normally.
Step 04
Elden Ring's environment becomes Minecraft's collision environment
From Minecraft's perspective, parts of Elden Ring's terrain can effectively behave like invisible Minecraft blocks. This allows Steve to walk on floors, encounter walls, move around buildings, and interact with the existing terrain without manually recreating every Elden Ring object as a Minecraft model.
Step 05
Minecraft's own physics and simulation remain active
Because Minecraft is still performing its own simulation, systems such as block behavior, water flow, projectiles, and Minecraft entity physics can continue operating according to Minecraft's rules. The bridge provides the environmental information needed for those systems to interact with the Elden Ring world.
Step 06
Minecraft objects are rendered into the Elden Ring world
Minecraft's character, blocks, items, and other objects are rendered as an additional visual layer within Elden Ring. The bridge synchronizes the Minecraft camera/rendering information with the host game's scene so that Minecraft objects can appear to occupy the Elden Ring environment rather than simply being placed over a video of it.
